Frequently Asked Questions

Does acupuncture hurt? +

Most patients feel minimal to no pain. Acupuncture needles are extremely thin — about the width of a human hair. You may feel a brief sensation when the needle is inserted, followed by a feeling of warmth, tingling, or deep relaxation. Many patients find treatment so relaxing they fall asleep.

How many sessions will I need? +

This varies by condition and individual. Acute issues may improve in 3–6 sessions, while chronic conditions often require 8–12 sessions or more. During your initial consultation, Dr. Lee will recommend a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Do you accept insurance? +

Yes! We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, and all other major insurance plans. Please contact our office at (215) 224-2070 to verify your specific coverage. We also offer competitive self-pay rates and can provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.

What should I expect at my first visit? +

Your initial consultation lasts approximately 60–90 minutes. Dr. Lee will review your health history, discuss your concerns, and perform a traditional diagnostic assessment including pulse and tongue analysis. You'll then receive your first treatment and a personalized care plan.

Is acupuncture safe? +

Yes. When performed by a licensed practitioner like Dr. Lee, acupuncture is extremely safe with very few side effects. We use sterile, single-use disposable needles, and Dr. Lee's nearly 40 years of experience ensures the highest standard of care.

What is herbal medicine? +

Chinese herbal medicine uses natural plant, mineral, and occasionally animal-based formulas that have been refined over thousands of years. Dr. Lee creates custom formulations — available in pills, capsules, powders, or traditional teas — to support your acupuncture treatments and address your specific health needs.
